6 March - Fort William Mountain Festival Party up a Mountain - www.mountainfilmfestival.co.uk Let?s get the ceilidh started! The mountain gondola will whisk party-goers to 650m up Aonach Mor beside Ben Nevis for the official opening of the 2009 Mountain Festival. The Snowgoose restaurant & bar will be open for meals and refreshments from 6.30pm - 8.30pm. Then its time to dance the night away with a great highland ceilidh from 8 - 11,30pm. FREE shuttle bus between Fort William and Nevis range. Departs Fort William, behind Morrisons, at 7pm and 7.45pm and then departs Nevis Range at 11.30pm and midnight. Advance tickets £9/ £5. 9 March - Snowsports Night at the Fort William Mountain Festival - In less than ninety years, Scottish Skiing has developed from an occasional aid to winter mountaineering to the weekend recreation of tens of thousands. Myrtle Simpson guides us through the beginnings of Scottish Skiing, and the story is picked up by those immersed in all kinds of snowsport today! Inter dispersed with contributions, exhibits, images and footage of the best of Scottish skiing, as well as scots overseas! Author of many titles including 'Skisters' - The Story of Scottish Skiing??, Myrtle Simpson is a former president of the Scottish Ski Club. She was the first woman to ski across the Greenland ice cap and has skied and climbed in Scotland for the past 50 years.
14 March - Highlander Slopestyle Competition - Scotland's most successful series of ski and snowboard freestyle competitions rocks up at Nevis Range. Riders will gain a score in the overall Scottish freestyle rankings and, fort he first year, the competition has been recognised by the Swatch TTR World Snowboard Tour which gives each rider the opportunity to gain world ranking! An event not to be missed. All operations weather and snow permitting.
14 March - Mammoth Descent - The popular and manic mountain dash at Nevis Range, from the summit of Aonach Mor to Meall Beag (TBC) by ski, snowboard or by running or walking! All ages and abilities welcome. More details from Nevis Range. All operations weather and snow permitting.
6 to 8 June - Mountain Bike World Cup - Come and watch the world's top riders at Nevis Range. This is the UK's biggest mountain biking event and the cross-country event is important ahead of the Bejing Olympics as it's the only Olympic discipline of the three categories which will be taking place over the weekend.
